According to this writer....yes:

But if Hinson is available, Zenger probably would be seriously interested.

Sadly, Benson doesn't think much before he writes. Maybe if it involved an Illini coaching search, he would do some investigative reporting, but he just takes the easy way out and makes up some crazy crap. Who's Jim going to suggest next...... Rob Judson? That paper has really gone to hell, its sports coverage is an embarassment.

I bet you he just reads Redbirdfan.com for stories. In reality, his job is pretty much done by the people there. I don't think he's written anything that hasn't been posted there first.

So he's saying that we should be interested in a guy thats being fired from a fellow Valley school for 'insufficient progress' to replace the guy we fired because of 'insufficient progress'? That's just kinda dumb. We've had two bad hires in a row and desperately need to hit a home run with this hire. Zenger knows that.

Barry Hinson will not be persued by Sheahon Zenger let alone hired. Zenger knows he needs *****e$ in the seats and Berruh isn't going to provide that. Plus, if he can't get to the NCAA's at MSU, why should anyone expect he would at ISU?

If Barry is let go, there is no way in hell he comes to ISU. Benson cant possibly believe that's a possibility. Rather it seems he is just listing another potentially available coach to start some sort of barbershop discussion.

Apparently you didn't see MSU's attendance figures this season. I'm sure they averaged more fans than you and their arena is abour 3,000 seats smaller. Are you saying that if Illinois State had MSU's resume this season that Redbird fans wouldn't have purchased more tickets?

Winning puts asses in the seats...not the coach. MSU has won 22 games each of the last two seasons. I bet most ISU (red) fans would kill to see 22 wins again.

No Redbird fan is in any position to knock someone else's attendance. That wasnt Cooksey's intent. Also, you are right, winning puts butts in the seats, not the coach... unless your talking about Illinois State. Even if Moser were to stay and we put together a big year next year, attendance at Redbird Arena probably still wouldnt've improved. The sad truth is that a great many of our fans gave up on Moser and the team 2 seasons ago, and have not been back since. I know for a fact that people refused to return to games as long as he was coaching. So at least around here, who the coach is does affect the crowds. Its a sad, undeserved and misguided truth, but its the truth nonetheless.

Yes, MSU (and everyone else except the Sycs) out-drew us this year. We set the record for lowest attendance in Redbird Arena history for the 2nd straight year. That fact, among others, I'm sure contributed to Moser's dismissal. What Cooksey was getting at is the fact that Zenger needs to hire a coach that will get people rallied at the outset. ISU needs hoops attendance to pick back up in the worst way. If our roster stays intact, then we will have the talent/depth/experience to put a winner on the floor. Now we just need to find them a coach. If Zenger hires a coach that people recognize and will rally around, combined with what is the possibility for a strong season, then more butts will fill the seats for sure. I like Barry and have nothing against him, but I dont think people en masse around here would be jumping off their couches and heading to the box office if Barry was the coach here. That said I'd take what he's done at MSU in a heartbeat.

Barry's attendance was way down compared to the MSU norm in the 90's up until this year... he has had the worst Attendance figures in MSU's D1 history.
